Missing Pieces That I Needed
Oct. 27th, 2022 08:54 pmWe watched all of Tales of the Jedi last night, which I’ve been looking forward to for months. It’s probably what I’ve been most looking forward to in general, at least until the next season of The Bad Batch starts. And, boy, was it worth the wait.
Back when I found out what the focus of the episodes was going to be I wasn’t looking forward to the Dooku arc, but I was hopeful. I’ve never been able to enjoy him as a character and I was really hoping that doing a bit of filling in on his backstory—as hard-canon instead of the various EU books that keep dropping in and out—would do something that worked for me. It absolutely did, especially his third episode. I love that Yaddle was important. I always say, about the things coming out in TCW continuity “I know it’s going to hurt me, just hurt me the right way,” and it pretty consistently does.
I knew I wasn’t going to have a problem with the Ahsoka episodes, even though none of them were really ‘necessary.’ I loved seeing more of togruta society, and more time with Snips and Skyguy. (A spiteful part of me that ruffled at people saying after the trailers ‘Oh, I hope the whole point is that she doesn’t do what Anakin says, and that’s why she’s strong!’ didn’t get that from the plot. Sorry, folks, he actually was a good teacher for her despite his incredibly destructive flaws. That’s sort of the point.) The moment after she gets stunned for the first time was lighthearted and fun, and then the full significance of it hit me later and knocked the wind out of me a little. And it was nice to see how much the third episode drew from the Ahsoka novel, even if it isn’t fully canon anymore. Plus the Inquisitor design was the best one yet, and I love it whenever Clancy Brown shows up somewhere. XD I just loved this series, start to finish.
And then my partner gave me a great compliment, that the Snips and Skyguy episode felt like something I’d write. Like a little moment that the Disaster Trio would have, just to give some extra feelings. I think it’s one of the nicest compliments I’ve ever gotten. ^~^
